The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday observed on the 5th day of the 5th month in the lunar calendar. This festival boasts a rich history and is renowned for its lively traditions and cultural significance.

Origins:

The Dragon Boat Festival honors the memory of the renowned Chinese scholar and poet Qu Yuan. Legend has it that Qu Yuan drowned himself in the Miluo River as a protest against government corruption. Locals raced out in their boats to rescue him, but they were too late. To protect Qu Yuan’s body from fish and evil spirits, people threw rice dumplings (zongzi) into the river, a tradition that continues to this day.

Traditions and Customs:

– **Dragon Boat Racing**: One of the most thrilling aspects of the festival is the dragon boat races. Teams paddle their boats in unison, striving to reach the finish line first. The boats are adorned with intricate dragon heads and tails.

– **Eating Zongzi**: Zongzi, sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves, are a staple of the Dragon Boat Festival. They come in a variety of flavors, both sweet and savory.

– **Drinking Realgar Wine**: Traditionally, it is believed that drinking realgar wine can ward off evil spirits and diseases.

Happy Dragon Boat Festival! May the joy and spirit of this traditional holiday bring you happiness and good health. Best wishes to you and your family during this festive season!

Best Regards,

Zicar (Jaya International)
